Once upon a time
Once upon a time there was a teacher that decided to have
her class secretly write down on paper one thing that they thought about each
student in class and then handed them to the appropriate student so that they
could read each comment about themselves. This may not have been such a good
idea for a certain 7th grader who was already struggling with her self-image.
That 7th grader was me. I kept those little pieces of paper
way into my adulthood until one day I saw written on paper what God thought of
me. The book I was reading was “Beautiful in God's eyes” by Elizabeth
George and it forever changed how I saw myself.
God’s word says that we are chosen, loved, forgiven and the positive list goes on and on. Our entire worth is found in Him! If someone has said something about you that is contrary to what God says in His word then don't continue to hold onto it and for sure don't take it and let it become who you are and what you believe about yourself. What I couldn't see at the time was my TRUE worth. I was constantly looking at the words on the wrong pages in my life. I could only see their opinion and I allowed those opinions to shape and mold many of my years as a young adult. I later chose to get rid of, by means of a fire pit, the entire list of opinions from classmates that I no longer knew and chose to focus my attention on God’s opinion of me.
Deuteronomy 14:2 ESV For you are a people holy to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
I encourage you to see yourself the way God sees you and even speak out of your mouth what God says in His Word until it becomes grounded in your heart. It's good to hear yourself speak out what God thinks of you. You will begin to view yourself through God’s eyes. Don't allow someone else’s thoughts of you to tell you who you are. And don't compare yourself with others to desperately try to become who they are. God made us each individualy and God’s word makes it clear that we are all beautiful to Him. Beauty isn’t just reserved for models and Hollywood actors and actresses. True beauty is from the inside out. You are beautiful and you are chosen to be the object of God's affection.
Deuteronomy 10:15
The LORD set his heart on your ancestors and loved them. Because of this, today he chooses you, their descendants, out of all the people of the world.
Our lives in Him are to be the happily ever after. Choose today to believe who He says you are and be the example to those around you! It will change the way they see you and value you.
