Where is Your Treasure?
Just recently, our family went on a week-long trip to visit
my parents out of state. While we were there, my parents set up a treasure hunt
for all of the grandkids. They gave clues and riddles that lead us to the spot
where the treasure was buried, and at the end we dug up a big wooden box filled
with coins, jewels, candy and new Bibles for the kids! They were very excited
to say the least, however, I think we adults enjoyed it just as much as the
kids!
There is something about a treasure that makes us- even as
grown ups- excited! Why? Because we found something valuable, something of
great worth. Did you know that we are all, even as we speak, storing up
treasure? We will “bury” our treasure in one of two places: on this earth where
it will eventually rot away, or in heaven where it will last forever!
19 “Do not store up for yourselves
[material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves
break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures
in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break
in and steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart
[your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be
also.
- Matthew
6:19-21 (AMP)
So what Jesus is saying is that where we put our money,
time, and resources is where the center of our life and desires will be. I
don’t know about you, bur that really makes me think! Am I putting everything I
have into things of this life that don’t last? Am I storing my treasure here on
earth?
But when we use our money, time, and resources to build
God’s Kingdom and His church, we are storing treasures in heaven! Treasure that
will not be destroyed and cannot be stolen. Not only that, but we will find
that our wishes, desires and the center of our life will be in God’s Kingdom!
Now what could be more valuable than that?!
