Dream On!
“Get your head out of the clouds!”
Along, with, “You’ll never be worth two cents if you don’t get to work!”
were phrases I heard often from my parents when growing up. See, they grew up in the Great Depression
where working was equal to survival. So,
this kind of thinking was essential to them.
However, these phrases made a deep impression on me even as a
child. Of course, we need to be
responsible and work. But the impact of
“getting my head out of the clouds” didn’t really show up until adulthood.
Though I had a good work ethic, I had no clue what I wanted to do in
life. It was hard for me envision myself
doing anything. You know—have a vision
(dream), which I thought was a wrong thing to do! However, the Bible is full of people of
vision. In fact, God searched out
dreamers and visionaries like Abraham and Joseph. He needed people who would take what couldn’t
be seen—visions, dreams—and trust Him to make it a reality! Scripture is just as strong about vision as
my parents were about working. Proverbs
29:18 says, “Where there is no vision,
the people perish.” Those are strong
words. Life and death words.
Now, along the way, we’ve asked more than a few Christians what they
think their vision is, their purpose, their God dreams. Surprisingly, or maybe not, there are
typically awkward pauses, and some word stumbling. Why?
Were others influenced like I was?
Do we believe lies about ourselves?
Someone said, “Vision is the bridge between the present and the
future.” If that is so, we need to get
about the business of seeing what God’s seeing.
And He’s seeing BIG things in us.
We are His future and His hope. Look
in the Word, Listen, and Dream On!!
