Double Jeopardy!
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
We know what separates us from God is sin. We are born
into a fallen world and from birth we carry a sin nature with us. We are
sentenced to death because of that. No matter what we do or don’t do we
carry with us this conviction. We cannot deny it.
BUT GOD…..
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only
Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life”
HAHAHAHAHAH THAT’S GREAT NEWS!
Picture this:
You have committed a crime and the penalty of that crime is
death.
You are sitting on the stand with the accuser throwing event
after event of what you did that put you there. Every event you have no
defense for. They are all true. Time and time again you have broken
the law. You feel helpless and doomed.
BUT then, in walks a man. He doesn’t say a word but
you know Him. He has never broken the law but He walks right to you and
says “get up, I am taking your seat”.
The accuser doesn’t even see Him because he is too busy
telling you what you did wrong. He is still going through your entire
life’s mistakes. You stand up and walk to the jury’s seat to watch.
When the accuser finally gets to the end of his accusations against you he
turns around and asks his final question “HOW DO YOU PLEA?” and before he sees
who is in the seat he hears “QUILTY AS CHARGED”. The judge lowers the
gavel and the sentence is set. That man took all of your crimes as you
and is paying the price for you.
This is exactly what Jesus did on the cross. He paid
your price. He took your sentence and served your time.
Isaiah 53:5
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, he was
bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and
with His stripes we are healed”
When we believe He is our savior and acknowledge him with
our mouth then we get to have peace that our debt is paid
Did you know that there is a law called “Double Jeopardy”
that says you cannot be prosecuted twice for the same offense? That means
that you no longer have to accept it when the accuser comes at you with
condemnation. You have already been tried and convicted of your crimes
and your debt has been fully paid. You cannot serve the sentence
again. The accuser doesn’t want to admit defeat and he will continue to
show you how much you didn’t deserve what Jesus did. He will continue to
try to get you into that court room to answer for your sins, but you don’t even
have to walk into that court room and you certainly don’t have to take the
stand. But if you don’t know the law and you don’t understand what Jesus
did, you will find yourself sitting under the condemnation of the law
completely missing out of the very freedom given to you freely from Jesus!!!
The only seat you should ever take is the throne seat next
to your glorious Father in heaven. YOU ARE HEIR TO THE THROWN AND FREE
FROM CONDEMNATION! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!
